Coworker Damaged My Car in Parking Lot

Today while I was at work, a few coworkers informed me that my car had been hit. It turns out that one of my coworkers was the one who damaged it while parking. I managed to get her insurance details and license plate information, and she has offered to pay for the damages out of pocket, up to $1,000.

However, she was quite confrontational during our conversation and refused to hear my perspective. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the situation. Any advice on how to handle this would be appreciated.

  1. It sounds like a frustrating situation, and it’s understandable to feel upset. Here are a few steps you might consider:

    1. Document Everything: Take pictures of the damage to both cars and keep a record of any communication you have with your coworker, especially if it becomes confrontational.

    2. Stay Professional: Try to keep the conversation focused on resolving the issue rather than getting into an argument. It can be helpful to remain calm and collected, even if she is confrontational.

    3. Get a Written Agreement: If she’s willing to cover the damages out of pocket, it might be a good idea to get this agreement in writing. Specify the amount she’s willing to pay and how you’ll handle the repairs.

    4. Consider Using Insurance: If the damage exceeds her offer or if it becomes a bigger issue, it might be worth filing a claim with your insurance. This will also create a record of the incident.

    5. Involve HR if Necessary: If her confrontational behavior continues or if you’re uncomfortable resolving this directly with her, consider discussing the incident with your HR department for guidance.

    6. Don’t Stress Too Much: Accidents happen, and it’s important to take care of yourself in the meantime. Focus on resolving the situation and getting your car fixed.

Hopefully, it will be resolved smoothly!
