Home Insurance in Texas: Seeking Advice
Is anyone else having a hard time finding home insurance?
We’re set to close on a property on April 10th, located in a rural area about an hour from Austin. It’s far from hurricanes, has no tornado risk, and isn’t prone to flooding.
The house was built in 1936 and sits on 2.75 acres. It has a new roof and is in great condition overall.
However, the quotes we’ve received range from $5,000 to $8,000, which seems outrageous to me. I thought most people typically pay around $3,000 or less.
By the way, we’re a young married couple (25 years old) with a solid insurance credit history. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
I totally get your frustration! Home insurance costs have been skyrocketing in many areas, especially with the changes in the market. It sounds like you’ve done your homework on your property’s risks, which is great. Sometimes, the age of the home can play a big role in the quotes you’re receiving, as older homes often come with certain risks that insurers consider.
It might help to shop around a bit more or consider using an insurance broker who can help you find more competitive rates. Also, reaching out to local agents who understand your specific area can sometimes yield better results than online quotes that may not take into account the unique aspects of rural properties.
Lastly, some companies offer discounts for bundling home and auto insurance or for installing security systems. It might be worth looking into all your options! Good luck with the closing and I hope you find a better rate soon!
