Insurer Responds with List of Defendants to Victim

I submitted a request for an insurance claim against a nonprofit after their IT Vendor embezzled my wages. The insurer got back to me, stating they couldn’t share their client’s insurance details. However, they included in their reply the names of the two employees they are defending, two professional liability insurance companies, and two corporate fraud attorneys in the CC.

Is this typical, or did the insurer mistakenly CC the perpetrator and their legal team?

  1. It sounds like you’re in a challenging situation. Typically, when an insurer responds to a claim, they may include relevant parties in the cc line for transparency, especially if those individuals are directly involved in the case, like the defendants and their legal counsel. However, it is unusual for such sensitive information to be so openly shared, as this could potentially compromise the confidentiality of the parties involved.

The inclusion of defendants and their insurance providers in the response may have been an oversight, but it could also be standard procedure depending on the insurer’s policies and the specifics of the case. It’s important to check if there are legal implications regarding the communication of such information, as it may vary by jurisdiction.

If you are concerned about the appropriateness of this communication, you may want to consult with a legal professional who can provide guidance tailored to your situation. This may help ensure that your interests are protected moving forward.
