lapse of coverage with Geico

Lapse of Coverage with Geico

When filling out Geico’s application, I was asked how long I’ve gone without a lapse in coverage. The only option available is 11 years, and I’ve never owned a car without having coverage. Should I select the 11-year option? While there have been times when I didn’t own a car (I relied on a company car or public transportation), my understanding is that a lapse in coverage specifically refers to owning a car without any insurance.

Thanks for your help!

  1. You’re correct in your understanding of what a lapse of coverage typically means. A lapse in coverage refers to a period when you owned a vehicle but did not have insurance on it. Since you mentioned that you have never owned a car and therefore haven’t had a lapse in coverage, selecting the 11 years may not accurately reflect your situation.

In this case, you could consider reaching out to Geico’s customer service for clarification. They may have specific guidelines on how to answer that question if you don’t have a history of owning a car or if you’ve only used a company car. It’s important to provide accurate information on your application to avoid any issues with coverage in the future.
