Looking for bike valet insurance

Seeking Insurance for Bike Valet Services

Hi everyone! I manage a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for pedestrians and cyclists in our urban community.

We’ve been successfully running a bike valet service at our local farmers market, which allows visitors to securely park their bikes while they shop. This initiative has proven to be an excellent outreach opportunity for our group. However, we’ve been informed by our current insurance provider that bike valet services are no longer covered under our policy. We’ve reached out to various other insurers, but unfortunately, none have been able to assist us. Our only alternative so far has been to ask attendees to sign waivers before parking their bikes, but our board feels uncomfortable with this approach.

Does anyone know of an insurance company that covers bike valet events? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Hi there! It’s great to hear about your advocacy for pedestrians and cyclists in the community. Hosting a bike valet at the farmers market sounds like a valuable service!

Finding insurance for specialized events like bike valet can be tricky. Here are a few suggestions that might help:

    1. Event Insurance Providers: Look for companies that specifically offer short-term event insurance. Companies like EventHelper or Markel might have policies that can be tailored to cover a bike valet service.

    2. Local Insurance Agents: Sometimes, local insurance agents have access to specialty insurers who can provide coverage that’s not available through larger companies. It might be worth reaching out to a few in your area.

    3. Community Foundation or Grants: Some community foundations or local government initiatives aimed at promoting cycling or sustainable transport might have resources or funding available, including insurance options.

    4. Collaborate with Local Businesses: Consider partnering with a local bike shop or a community organization that might already have the proper insurance in place. They may be willing to share the coverage or co-host the event.

    5. Liability Insurance: If waivers are uncomfortable for your board, perhaps consider looking into general liability insurance that covers events and includes any potential bike parking activities.

It’s understandable to have concerns about waivers, but if all else fails, educating participants about the risks and your organization’s commitment to their bike’s safety might reassure them. Good luck with your search, and thank you for your continued efforts in promoting safe biking!
