Question about auto claims

Inquiry About Auto Insurance Claims

I’ve held auto insurance for many years without ever filing a claim until recently. In the past three months, my wife has had a couple of unfortunate incidents: she hit a deer, which totaled her car at around $12,000, and then she slid into a ditch, damaging the car further with approximately $11,500 in repairs. It’s been quite a rough patch!

I understand that hitting a deer typically doesn’t affect insurance rates, but I’m concerned about whether the recent incidents will lead to a significant increase in my premiums.

For reference, I have State Farm as my auto insurance provider. Any insight would be appreciated!

  1. It’s understandable to be concerned about how recent claims might affect your insurance premiums, especially after a tough few months. Since you’ve mentioned that the deer incident won’t negatively impact your rates, the main concern would be the claim for damage from the mailbox.

Typically, insurers take several factors into account when considering rate increases after a claim, including your overall claims history, the nature of the incidents, and the amount of the claims. Since you haven’t filed claims in many years, State Farm might take that into account and not impose a significant increase.

However, it’s still possible that your premium could go up due to the recent claims, especially since the mailbox incident resulted in considerable damage. You might want to contact your State Farm agent to discuss your specific situation. They can give you a clearer idea of what to expect regarding your rates and whether there are any options to mitigate potential increases. It’s always a good idea to stay informed!
