Scope of work clarity not provided

Lack of Clarity on Scope of Work

Hi everyone! I’m currently handling a claim for a house fire and chose to work with an insurance-recommended contractor for the restoration. Recently, the contractor provided an estimate, but I’m unclear about the details. Do we, as the insured, have the right to request the initial scope of work that the contractor submitted, or is that information only available to the adjuster and contractor? We’ve been left in the dark while they discuss the scope, and I’m hoping for some guidance. Thanks!

  1. Hello! It’s completely understandable to feel concerned about the transparency of the process, especially when it comes to something as significant as a house fire claim. Typically, as the insured, you do have the right to request and review the scope of work that the contractor submitted. It’s important for you to have clarity on what repairs and restoration are being proposed to ensure that they align with your expectations and the terms of your insurance policy.

I recommend reaching out directly to your insurance adjuster and expressing your need for more information. You can request a copy of the scope of work and ask for a detailed breakdown of the estimate. Clear communication is key, so don’t hesitate to advocate for your right to be informed throughout the process. If you still feel left in the dark, consider seeking assistance from a public adjuster or legal advisor who specializes in insurance claims to help navigate the situation. Best of luck, and I hope you get the clarity you need soon!
