Reminder about Private Messages and Solicitation
It’s time for a quick reminder about the rules of this subreddit. There is absolutely no reason to offer to reach out to another user privately, particularly if they’re asking for guidance on coverage or filing a claim. Here’s the main rule:
The singular rule of r/Insurance is that solicitation is strictly prohibited. This includes requesting users to send private messages, offering quotes, or asking agents/buyers to choose your specific insurance carrier. This subreddit is intended to be a space for sharing information and asking questions without the concern of being solicited by agents. This also applies to adjusters, underwriters, and brokers since we do not vet any individuals.
If you subscribed to the subreddit, you may have seen a version of this message.
If you believe this rule doesn’t pertain to you, please reconsider. There are no exceptions, even if you think, “but I asked them to message me!” This subreddit is a supportive environment for users to inquire about insurance matters. It is not a platform for anyone to profit from, whether they are agents, public adjusters, software vendors, personal injury attorneys, headhunters, diminished value experts, or anyone else not here to provide assistance without any expectation of compensation.
Should you receive a message from someone offering a business proposal, whether it’s for an insurance quote, legal representation (yes, there are unscrupulous lawyers who may solicit on Reddit), damage assessments, or anything similar, please report it to the moderators via mod mail or in this thread. Additionally, make sure to report the message to the admins (note: we do not see that report). We take these matters very seriously.
We don’t enjoy banning individuals; in fact, that’s the opposite of our reason for volunteering as moderators. However, we cannot vet users before their posts, and we enforce rules against those who violate them.
With that said, we have a vibrant community dedicated to assisting one another while ensuring that rule-breakers do not disrupt the experience. Thank you to everyone who helps others navigate the insurance process and for keeping the community focused and respectful.
Thank you for the important reminder! It’s crucial to maintain the integrity of this community as a supportive space where individuals can ask questions and share information about insurance without any pressure or solicitation. The rules are in place for a reason, and it’s great to see the moderators actively working to keep this sub a safe and informative environment for everyone. Let’s continue to help each other while respecting these guidelines. If anyone receives unsolicited messages, please report them so we can keep this community thriving. Appreciate all the hard work from the mods and the engagement from fellow users!
