Transitioning to Underwriting?
Hi everyone! I’m currently working in supply chain operations and looking to make a shift into the insurance industry, specifically in underwriting. I believe my experience with data analysis, cost management, and customer service could be valuable in this new field.
I’m curious if anyone has insights on whether taking some of the online courses offered by the Insurance Institute (not certification courses) would enhance my resume for Underwriting Assistant positions. Would these courses be beneficial, or even necessary? I appreciate any advice you might have! Thanks!
Transitioning into underwriting from a supply chain operations background is definitely feasible, especially since you already possess valuable skills like data analysis and time management. These skills are highly relevant in underwriting, where assessing risk and costs is crucial.
Taking online courses from the Insurance Institute can be a great way to boost your resume and demonstrate your commitment to this new career path. While they may not be strictly necessary, they can provide you with foundational knowledge about insurance products, risk assessment, and industry terminology. This can set you apart from other candidates who may not have formal education in the field.
Additionally, consider leveraging your current skills in data analysis and customer service during interviews to highlight how they can be applied in underwriting. Networking with professionals in the industry and seeking informational interviews can also provide valuable insights and possibly lead to job opportunities. Good luck with your transition!
