Will another insurance company report any findings to my current home insurance?
My current provider has never inspected our roof, yet they’re claiming it’s not in good condition even though there are no missing shingles. We’re paying around $500 a month for two older Honda cars and our house.
We chose this company because others declined to cover us due to our home being built in 1956 and later remodeled. I’m wondering: if we get an estimate from another contractor and they identify any issues, will that information be shared with our current insurance, potentially leading to cancellation? This is in Texas, by the way.
When it comes to insurance companies, there are a few important points to consider regarding reporting issues and inspections. Generally, if you hire someone to assess your roof and they find problems, they are not obligated to report those findings to your current insurance company. However, if you decide to file a claim for those issues with your current insurer, they will then conduct their own inspection.
In Texas, insurers may have access to certain databases and reports about a property, which can include prior claims or issues reported. However, an independent estimate you obtain for your roof wouldn’t automatically trigger a report to your insurance company. It’s important to communicate directly with your insurance provider to understand their policies and any potential implications of obtaining an estimate.
If you’re concerned about your coverage and the potential for cancellation, you might want to discuss your situation with your insurance agent. They can provide guidance specific to your policy and help you navigate any decision-making regarding repairs or changes to your coverage.
