Do insurance providers provide mobile EV charging now in their roadside assistance?

Are insurance providers now offering mobile EV charging as part of their roadside assistance? I’m with Progressive for my Tesla Model 3, and after neglecting to disable Sentry Mode before leaving for a 1.5-week vacation, I’m coming back to a fully dead car parked in a nearby garage. I’ve only had my EV for six months, so this will be the first time it’s completely out of charge while I’m away. Thankfully, there’s a Supercharger just 2.5 miles from the parking garage. I return home tomorrow and was curious—if I call roadside assistance, will they be able to provide a mobile charge sufficient to get me to a Supercharger, or will they need to tow my car instead?

  1. Insurance providers vary in the services they offer for roadside assistance, especially when it comes to mobile EV charging. Progressive does include some level of roadside assistance, but whether they can provide mobile charging for your Tesla Model 3 will depend on your specific policy and the resources available in your area.

To get the most accurate information, it’s best to contact Progressive directly and ask if they offer mobile EV charging as part of their roadside assistance. Many roadside assistance companies are beginning to offer mobile charging solutions since EVs are becoming more common, so there’s a chance they might be able to help you get enough charge to reach the Supercharger.

If mobile charging isn’t an option, they may need to tow your vehicle to the nearest charging station. In either case, it’s a good idea to call them as soon as you can so they can dispatch help to you and avoid any delays. Safe travels when you return!
