Auto insurance carrier recommendations in Michigan for family after 19 year old son received OWI

Navigating Auto Insurance Challenges in Michigan: Seeking Recommendations After an OWI Incident

As a family, we recently encountered a significant challenge with our auto insurance following an unfortunate incident involving our 19-year-old son. Nine months ago, he received an OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) in Michigan, which has led to a dramatic increase in our insurance premium, rising to an astonishing $9,300 for a six-month policy with Progressive. This sudden hike is simply beyond our financial capacity.

Considering this situation, we are planning to take a necessary step by removing him from our family policy and having him acquire a non-driving insurance policy, as he doesn’t own a vehicle and will not be driving any of ours. Currently, our family comprises four insured drivers: a 52-year-old male, a 50-year-old female, a 22-year-old male, and a 16-year-old female, all of whom maintain clean driving records. Our fleet includes three cars: a 2021 Ford F150, a 2019 Volkswagen Atlas, and a 2022 Volkswagen Taos.

We are reaching out to the community for suggestions and advice on how to navigate this daunting situation. Specifically, we seek recommendations for reliable auto insurance providers in Michigan that may offer more affordable rates, given our family’s clean driving history apart from the incident affecting our son.

Any insights or experiences you may share would be immensely appreciated as we work toward finding a more manageable insurance solution for our family. Thank you for your help!
