A few weeks ago, I found myself in an all-too-familiar scenario: I was rear-ended by another vehicle. After promptly filing a claim with the responsible party’s insurance, they accepted liability and directed my vehicle to one of their authorized repair shops to address the damage — primarily to the rear bumper and backup camera.

The repair process was frustratingly prolonged, with the shop continually postponing the pickup date. Ultimately, I received a call confirming that my car was finally ready for collection. However, upon arriving at the shop, I was hit with the shocking news that my vehicle no longer started. The technicians attributed this new issue to a malfunction in the electrical wiring, and to add insult to injury, they insisted that this problem was not their fault. I was told I would have to arrange for towing and cover the costs to fix this unexpected issue independently.

Before the accident, my car functioned perfectly; I had even driven it to the shop without a hitch. During the evaluation, the mechanics performed multiple diagnostic tests, confirming that the only issue was the broken backup camera, which was supposed to be their sole focus for repairs. After contacting the at-fault driver’s insurance company again, I was disheartened to learn that they claim it’s no longer their issue, leaving me in a predicament with a non-operational vehicle, unanticipated electrical problems, and a towing bill that I never anticipated.

Now, I find myself asking: What are my options? Has anyone else faced a situation like this? It feels incredibly unjust to be left with a non-working car due to someone else’s negligence. Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated as I navigate this frustrating dilemma.
