Insurance wants proof of license at 18 but I don’t have that card anymore.

Navigating Insurance Roadblocks: How to Retrieve Your Old Driver’s License Information

Recently, I encountered a frustrating situation when switching insurance plans that I believe is worth sharing. After relocating and enrolling in a new insurance policy with my partner, I found myself facing unexpected complications due to my driving history.

Upon obtaining my new driver’s license in my current state, I was informed by the insurance agents that my rates would be significantly higher. The reasoning was that, without a lengthy driving history in my new location, they deemed me a higher risk. To adjust my premium, they required my previous out-of-state license for reference.

Diligently, I searched for that license and managed to locate it; however, it was only dated a year ago. To my dismay, the agents then indicated that they needed my very first license to further reduce my rates. Unfortunately, this posed a significant challenge—as I have been driving since I turned 18, and I no longer possess that original document. I am now 32, meaning several years have passed and my first license is long gone.

If anyone has faced a similar issue or knows of a way to retrieve driving history or license information, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. This situation has been quite stressful, and I’m eager to find a solution to lower my insurance rates, which currently feel exorbitant.

Thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide!
