During a routine call to update some details of my insurance policy, I was informed by the representative that the company has discontinued coverage for multi-occupancy buildings. This revelation was particularly troubling for me, as I currently hold a policy for my multi-occupancy residence, where I serve as the freeholder. Despite the fact that my policy still has approximately seven months until expiration, the insurer expressed indifference about my situation, stating that they no longer cover such properties.

I was taken aback by their response, especially given the implications of accepting premium payments for a policy they no longer intend to support. I voiced my concerns regarding the legality of their actions, which seem to imply accepting money for a service and then abruptly withdrawing it without prior notice or a refund. Unfortunately, their response was less than reassuring, and they dismissed my concerns without any explanation or resolution.

In light of this troubling encounter, I wonder if others have experienced similar issues with their insurers. To address my grievances, I have initiated a formal complaint and will be reaching out to the Ombudsman. However, I am aware that this process could take anywhere from two to four months. My primary concern is that during this waiting period, my insurance claims will still be honored. So far, the insurer has not provided any written confirmation stating that my policy is invalid; the information was conveyed solely through a phone conversation.
