Navigating Roofing Issues After an Insurance Claim: Our Next Steps
A little over a year ago, we faced substantial wind damage to our roof and decided to file an insurance claim to cover the costs. We selected a local roofing company with a strong reputation, trusting that they would provide us with quality work. However, we’ve recently encountered a troubling issue: several shingles have begun to detach from our roof.
Initially, we reached out to the contractor who installed the roof, and they promptly replaced the fallen shingles. Unfortunately, this has not resolved the problem; more shingles have since come loose. Concerned about the longevity and integrity of our roof, we sought a second opinion from another roofing company. What we learned was alarming: the shingles used on our mansard roof were deemed inappropriate for its design, and they were also installed incorrectly. While the shingles on the flat section are in good condition, the steep side walls of the mansard roof are at risk of losing most of their shingles if not addressed promptly.
The second roofing company provided a rough estimate of around $20,000 for the necessary replacements but can offer a more precise quote if we choose to move forward with their services.
At this crossroads, we’re seeking advice on the best course of action. We believe that the original roofing contractor should be held accountable for their use of unsuitable materials and improper installation, yet we feel uncertain about their ability to resolve the ongoing issues now.
