A Year After Our Roof Replacement: What To Do When Issues Arise
It’s been a little over a year since we replaced our roof with the help of an insurance claim, following some severe wind damage. We opted for a well-reviewed local contractor, believing we had made a sound decision. Unfortunately, we’ve faced a troubling issue: several shingles have detached from our newly installed roof.
Initially, we reached out to the original roofing company, and they promptly replaced the fallen shingles. However, the problem resurfaced, with an even greater number of shingles coming loose. Seeking clarity, we consulted another roofing company for a second opinion. Their assessment raised alarming concerns: they indicated that the shingles used were inappropriate for our mansard roof and had been installed incorrectly. While the shingles on the flat area of the roof seemed to be in satisfactory condition, they advised that the steep sections of the mansard roof required a complete shingle replacement to avoid further issues down the line. They provided a rough estimate of around $20,000, noting that a more accurate quote would follow if we decided to move forward with their services.
Now, we find ourselves at a crossroads, unsure of the best course of action. It seems only right to hold the original contractor accountable for their apparent missteps, yet we lack confidence in their ability to rectify the situation. Therefore, we’re contemplating our options: Should we get in touch with our insurance company? Consult with a lawyer? Seek yet another roofing assessment? Or perhaps file a new claim to see how that unfolds?
We’re located in Kentucky and would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance from those who may have faced a similar situation. Thank you for your input as we navigate this challenging dilemma!
