Dealing with Roofing Woes: How to Navigate a Shoddy Installation
A little over a year ago, we took a significant step to protect our home by filing an insurance claim to replace our roof, which had sustained damage from wind. We selected a well-regarded local roofing company, believing we were making a wise investment in our property. However, our hopes were dashed when we began to notice shingles falling off soon after installation.
Initially, we reached out to the original contractor, who promptly replaced the missing shingles. Fast forward to today, and the situation has worsened; multiple shingles are now detached. In search of answers, we decided to consult a different roofing company for a second opinion. To our dismay, they informed us that the installed shingles were not suitable for our mansard roof design and were applied incorrectly. While the shingles on the flat section of the roof were deemed acceptable, they strongly advised replacing all the shingles on the steep side walls of the mansard due to the risk of further deterioration. They provided a rough estimate of around $20,000 for this necessary work, with a more precise quote to follow.
Now we find ourselves at a crossroads, unsure of the best course of action. We understand that the installing contractor should be held responsible for using improper materials and techniques.
