Navigating Roof Repairs: Seeking Solutions for a Troubling Situation
Hello everyone,
I hope this finds you well. Today, I want to share a challenging situation we’ve encountered with our roof replacement, which we had done through an insurance claim just over a year ago. After experiencing severe wind damage, we turned to a trusted local roofing contractor for the repairs. While we were optimistic about the work, recent developments have raised significant concerns.
Shortly after the installation, we noticed a few shingles had come loose and subsequently fell off. The original contractor promptly addressed this by replacing the missing shingles, giving us hope that the issue was resolved. Unfortunately, the situation worsened, and we are now seeing a larger number of shingles falling off, particularly on the steep side walls of our mansard roof.
In an effort to understand the problem better, we sought a second opinion from a different roofing company. To our dismay, they informed us that the shingles used for our roof were not suitable for a mansard design and were applied incorrectly. While the shingles on the flat part of the roof seem to be in acceptable condition, they strongly recommended replacing all the shingles on the steep inclines to prevent further damage. They provided an estimated cost of around $20,000 for this extensive work, which seems daunting.
Now, we’re at a crossroads and unsure of how to proceed. We believe the original roofing company should be held accountable for the improper materials and installation methods. However, we’re hesitant to trust them for any further work.
Given these circumstances, several options are on the table:
– Should we reach out to our insurance company for guidance?
– Would it be prudent to consult a lawyer to discuss our rights?
– Is it wise to obtain a third opinion from another roofing expert?
– Or perhaps we should file a new claim and see how that unfolds?
As our situation continues to develop, we are eager for your input. If anyone in the Kentucky area has faced similar challenges or can provide advice, your insights would be incredibly valuable to us. Thank you in advance for your support and suggestions!
