Insurance wants proof of license at 18 but I don’t have that card anymore.

Navigating Insurance Requirements When You No Longer Have Your Original License

Recently, I relocated to a new state and updated my insurance policy accordingly. During the process, I encountered a challenge that I hope some of you might be able to help with.

The insurance company requested proof of my full driving history, specifically my original driver’s license from when I first started driving at age 18. Unfortunately, I no longer possess this initial license, as it was replaced when I obtained my current out-of-state license after moving.

Here’s the situation: since my new license is quite new, the insurer informed me that my premiums would be significantly higher because they consider my driving history limited. They asked to see my previous out-of-state license to better assess my driving record and potentially adjust the rates. I managed to find and provide that license, which had been issued about a year ago. However, the insurer now states that they need my very first license – the one I received when I started driving at 18 — to accurately determine my driving history and possibly reduce my premiums.

The complication is that I don’t have access to that original license anymore, as it was replaced long ago. I’ve been driving since I was 18 (I’m now 32), but without that starting document, I’m worried about how to proceed and how to improve my insurance rates.

If anyone has advice on how to obtain proof of my initial driver’s license or guidance on how to demonstrate my driving history without it, I would greatly appreciate your insights. My goal is to secure a fair rate and ensure my records accurately reflect my driving experience.

Thank you all for your time and assistance.
