Insurance wants proof of license at 18 but I don’t have that card anymore.

Understanding Auto Insurance Requirements: Navigating License Documentation Challenges

Recently, I relocated to a new state and updated my auto insurance policy with my partner. During this process, I encountered a common yet frustrating issue regarding license documentation.

When establishing my insurance coverage, the agents requested proof of my driving history, specifically an out-of-state license that would help justify lower premium rates. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to my original license, which I last held when I first started driving at the age of 18—now 32 years ago. I was able to locate my most recent out-of-state license, which is only about a year old, but it’s not enough for the insurer’s requirements.

The insurer informed me that having my initial license from when I began driving could significantly reduce my premium, as they use that information to assess my driving history. Since I do not possess that original license anymore, I am seeking advice on how to obtain official documentation or alternative evidence of my driving history from that time.

Does anyone have insights or recommendations on how to retrieve proof of an original license or establish driving history for insurance purposes? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, as I want to avoid unnecessarily high premiums due to incomplete documentation.

Thank you for your time and support.
