Expenses

Expenses Inquiry

Hello,

A few weeks ago, I was involved in a car accident and have initiated a claim for expenses and injuries in the UK.

As I work from home, my job typically involves long hours of sitting on calls. However, my physiotherapist has advised me to limit my sitting time to no more than 30 minutes at a time.

Would it be reasonable to claim a sit/stand desk as an expense through my insurance?

Prior to the accident, I was comfortable sitting and working for extended periods. Unfortunately, since the incident, I find it challenging to maintain my productivity. The only viable solutions to continue working are to either invest in a sit/stand desk or remain on sick leave while I wait for my employer to potentially provide one, which could take about six months! 😂

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your accident, and it’s great that you’re looking into ways to accommodate your new needs while working from home. Given the circumstances, a sit/stand desk could indeed be considered a reasonable expense to claim through your insurance.

Since your physio has advised you to limit your sitting time for health reasons, it supports your case that a sit/stand desk is necessary for your recovery and ability to work effectively. It might help to gather any documentation from your healthcare provider that outlines the need for such equipment as part of your rehabilitation.

When you make your claim, be clear about how the desk will enable you to continue working and prevent further injury. It’s also a good idea to keep records of any correspondence and responses from the insurance company to ensure you’re prepared for any questions they might have. Best of luck with your recovery and your claim process!
