Navigating Auto Insurance Requirements When You’ve Lost Your Old License
Recently, I experienced some challenges with my auto insurance provider after relocating to a new state. I recently started a new policy with my partner, and as part of the onboarding process, I was asked to provide proof of my driver’s license history. Since I have a new license issued in this state, the insurer initially indicated that my premiums would be higher because I was considered a relatively new driver here.
To address this, I attempted to supply my previous out-of-state license. I managed to locate a copy, which was only about a year old, and shared it with the insurer. However, they then requested my original license — the very first one I obtained at age 18 — to further adjust my rates downward.
The complication is that I no longer possess that original license; I’ve been driving since I was 18, and I am now 32. Over the years, I’ve lost track of that initial document.
If anyone has guidance on how to retrieve or verify my complete driving history to help reduce my insurance premiums, I would greatly appreciate your advice. Understanding how to present the proper documentation can make a significant difference in my costs.
Thank you for taking the time to read and assist.
