Got rear-ended, now my car won’t start after repairs & insurance won’t take responsibility

Navigating Post-Repair Vehicle Issues After an Accident: What Are Your Rights?

Recently, I experienced a rear-end collision that resulted in my vehicle needing repairs. After confirming liability, I submitted a claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance, which then authorized repairs at an approved repair facility. The repair focused primarily on the rear bumper and backup camera, and prior to the incident, my car was in perfect working condition.

The repair shop experienced delays but eventually notified me that my vehicle was ready for pickup. However, upon retrieving my car, I was shocked to discover it no longer started. The shop claimed there was now an electrical wiring problem— an issue they assert is unrelated to their work. They declined responsibility, insisting I must arrange and pay for the vehicle’s towing and subsequent repairs myself.

Prior to the accident, my vehicle operated flawlessly. I personally drove it to the repair center without any issues. Diagnostic tests performed during repairs confirmed that everything was functioning properly, aside from the damage they were assigned to fix. Now, I’m left with a non-starting vehicle, unexpected electrical complications, and a towing expense that I did not anticipate.

This situation leaves me questioning my next steps. Has anyone encountered similar experiences with post-repair vehicle problems following an accident? It feels unfair to be left bearing the cost for issues that may have arisen as a result of the repair process or negligence. I’d appreciate any advice or insights on how to handle this situation and protect my rights.
