NJ I reinstated my Car Insurance after canceling it. Company assured my policy was active. EFT docs I got today say I owe $0.00 due to “recent policy change.” Last docs were 2 days ago stating what I owe. My car insurance renews in 4 days and I just paid it in full (email was before I did)

Navigating Uncertainty with Car Insurance Reinstatement: A Personal Experience

Today, I found myself in a confusing and stressful situation regarding my car insurance policy in New Jersey. After canceling my policy, I promptly reinstated it when I was assured by the insurance company that the coverage was active again. However, recent electronic funds transfer (EFT) documents I received have raised some concerns.

The latest documentation indicates that I owe nothing—showing a balance of $0.00—due to a “recent policy change.” This is puzzling because just two days ago, my documents specified an amount owed. To make matters more complicated, my car insurance is set to renew in just four days, and I had already completed the full renewal payment prior to receiving this new EFT notice.

The core of my concern stems from the fact that I received the EFT bill indicating no amount due, even as I was preparing for a renewal payment. I contacted my insurance agents beforehand, who confirmed that my policy was indeed active. I also received a renewal notice reflecting a slightly reduced premium, which I paid in full before this recent documentation appeared.

The recent document includes the statement: “Due to a recent change to your account, your next automatic deduction scheduled for June 18, 2025, will be $0.00.” Interestingly, I have not seen any cancellation or non-renewal notices in my electronic documents within the app for the upcoming renewal date on the 14th, which I believe would typically generate first.

I suspect this situation might be related to my cancelation before the reinstatement, but I’m unclear why this message appears now, especially after I already paid the renewal amount. I initially thought the email was just a receipt, but upon closer inspection, it seems to have significant implications.

My primary concern is whether the insurance company can cancel my policy on such short notice. In New Jersey, laws require at least 15 days’ notice before a policy cancels or non-renews. Given that my renewal is imminent in four days, I am anxious about the possibility of coverage being discontinued unexpectedly, especially since I have no history of accidents, fraud, or suspensions.

Please note, it’s Saturday, and the insurance office is closed, which adds to the uncertainty. I am feeling quite anxious and would appreciate any insights or guidance on what steps I should take next to ensure my coverage remains valid.
