Navigating Insurance Disputes After a Minor Vehicle Accident
Recently, I found myself in an unexpected situation involving my vehicle and insurance claims. While driving through a gas station parking lot at a slow speed—about 5 miles per hour—another driver backed out of their parking space and unfortunately collided with my passenger side door.
Thankfully, I was able to retrieve security footage from the gas station that clearly shows I was not at fault. Despite this evidence, my insurance company, State Farm, has assigned me 35% responsibility for the incident, leaving the other driver’s insurance to cover the remaining 65%. I’ve spoken with a supervisor to address the situation, but haven’t seen any progress.
Given that I carry full coverage and collision insurance, and that State Farm is handling the claim through the other driver’s insurer, I’m seeking advice on how to effectively challenge this liability assessment. Are there specific steps I should take to ensure my rights are protected and the responsibility is correctly assigned?
This experience highlights the importance of understanding your insurance coverage and knowing how to respond when disputes arise. If you’ve faced similar situations, I would appreciate any insights or recommendations on how best to proceed.
