State Farm Drive Safe and Save – are these scores good enough for a discount?

Are State Farm’s Drive Safe and Save Scores Sufficient for a Discount?

Many drivers considering usage-based insurance programs often wonder about the significance of their Drive Safe and Save ratings. Recently, I signed up for State Farm’s program after purchasing a newer vehicle, which naturally increased my insurance costs—especially since I have a loan and necessary comprehensive coverage.

Here are my current scores:

  • Braking: 88
  • Acceleration: 99
  • Speed: 95
  • Cornering: 87
  • Phone Distraction: 89

While I was persuaded to try the program, I remain curious about how these scores translate into actual savings. My initial quote from Progressive, for comparable coverage, was slightly lower.

If I could secure at least a 15% discount—potentially up to 30% from these scores—staying within the State Farm Drive Safe and Save program might still be advantageous.

Ultimately, drivers should evaluate whether their performance metrics can provide meaningful discounts and if the savings outweigh any potential drawbacks. As always, it’s crucial to compare offers and consider the overall value before committing to a specific insurance plan.
