Car Insurance for Couples Living at Different Addresses
Hi all,
I’m relocating to Seattle to be with my girlfriend, and we’re planning to get married soon! We both own cars, but due to lease commitments, we’ll be residing at separate addresses for the time being. Is it possible to combine our car insurance so we can drive each other’s vehicles and have them under the same policy?
Thanks for your help!
Hi there!
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Regarding your car insurance, you can generally combine your policies even if you and your girlfriend live at different addresses, but there are a few things to consider:
Notify Your Insurance Provider: Contact your insurance companies and explain your situation. They can let you know about the options available for your specific circumstances.
Add Each Other as Named Drivers: You can add each other as named drivers on your policies, which will allow you to drive each other’s cars without any issues.
Consider a Joint Policy: Once you’re married, it might be beneficial to look into a joint policy. This can sometimes lead to discounts, but you’ll need to check how living at different addresses affects that.
Location Impact on Premiums: Keep in mind that insurance premiums can vary based on location. They may need to assess risk based on where each of you lives.
Coverage Types: Ensure that both of you have the coverage you need, especially if you’re planning to drive each other’s cars frequently.
Be sure to compare rates and coverage options before making any decisions. Good luck with the move and the wedding!
