Career Guidance Desperately Neded

Seeking Career Advice: Navigating the Commercial Insurance Landscape

As a 30-year-old commercial insurance producer at a prominent agency, I find myself at a crossroads in my career. Having obtained my license four years ago, I have been working in the small commercial insurance sector, earning a base salary of $80,000 along with additional commission ranging from $24,000 to $30,000. While I appreciate the flexibility of working fully remote, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed by the competitive nature of this industry.

With a target of generating $1.5 million in new premiums for 2024, the pressure is undeniably high. To put it plainly, while the numbers are manageable, the constant grind is taking its toll.

Despite my efforts and dedication to my work, I can’t shake the feeling that my earning potential may be capped. It seems that in my current role, as well as in the small commercial market overall, the upper salary range hovers around $110,000 to $125,000. Interestingly, many of my former colleagues and friends in similar positions at large agencies appear to be earning even less than I am.

At this point, I am contemplating my next steps. Should I explore different roles or sectors within the insurance industry? Is there a path to elevate my earnings and advance my career that I haven’t yet considered? I’m reaching out for guidance and would greatly appreciate any insights or advice from those who have navigated similar circumstances.
