Medical Mutal health insurance?

Medical Mutual Health Insurance Inquiry

Hi everyone! I just turned 18, and I’m starting to take more control over my doctor appointments and health decisions. I saw my doctor yesterday, and she recommended that I visit a weight loss specialist because I have some factors that make losing weight quite challenging. They contacted me today and suggested I check if weight loss treatments are covered by my insurance. I’m not sure if Medical Mutual covers weight loss programs and medications. Does anyone have information on this? Thanks!

  1. Congratulations on turning 18! It’s great that you’re taking control of your health and exploring options. Regarding your question about Medical Mutual health insurance and weight loss treatment coverage, it can vary depending on the specifics of your plan.

Typically, coverage for weight loss treatments and medications may depend on several factors, including:

    1. Medical Necessity: Some plans cover weight loss treatments if they are deemed medically necessary. This might include conditions that significantly impact your health, like obesity-related issues.

    2. Specific Treatments: Coverage may differ between surgical weight loss procedures (like bariatric surgery) and non-surgical options (like medications or therapy).

    3. Policy Details: It’s essential to check the specifics of your policy. You can usually find this information in your member handbook or by contacting customer service.

I recommend reaching out to Medical Mutual’s customer service or checking their website for detailed information regarding your plan. Additionally, your healthcare provider might also have resources or information about what typically gets covered. Good luck!
