Northbridge Insurance

Northbridge Insurance Experience

I live in Canada and was a customer of Northbridge Insurance (previously known as Zenith). About a year ago, I received my invoice for the 2024 insurance renewal, but I had decided not to continue with them, so I didn’t make the payment. Now, I’m receiving a flood of communications from them, including registered mail, urging me to renew my policy and claiming that I owe them for last year.

I have no plans to pay for last year’s insurance since I didn’t make the payment intentionally. I believe that if I had needed to file a claim, they wouldn’t have honored it because I hadn’t paid. It feels like they’re using intimidation tactics to extract money from me for a service I’m no longer using. Am I wrong to think I don’t owe them anything? It seems clear to me that if you don’t pay for a service, you shouldn’t have to receive or pay for it. That was my intention all along.

  1. It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating situation. You’re correct in thinking that if you didn’t intend to renew your policy and didn’t pay for it, you shouldn’t be obligated to pay for a service you didn’t use. Insurance companies typically require payment for coverage to be valid, and if you didn’t pay, you wouldn’t be covered.

However, insurance companies often send reminders for payments, even after a policy has lapsed, as part of their standard procedures. While it’s certainly uncomfortable to receive repeated communication, it might be a tactic to resolve what they view as an outstanding balance.

That said, it would be a good idea to contact Northbridge Insurance directly to clarify your situation and express your concerns. Ensure they have accurately recorded your intent not to renew. Document your communications with them in case you need to reference them later. If they continue to harass you for payment you believe you don’t owe, consider seeking advice from a consumer protection agency or a legal professional specializing in insurance matters. You have the right to resolve this issue without unnecessary stress.
