Hail Damage Claim with Preexisting Issues
This morning, we experienced a significant hailstorm, and my truck took quite a hit. However, a few years back, someone backed into me, causing damage to one of the doors. At that time, I was with a different insurance company and chose not to file a claim. With the extensive hail damage, my truck might be considered totaled (it has a lot of miles), but I’m worried my new insurance company will raise concerns about the unrelated damage. I don’t recall needing to disclose the previous damage during the process.
Hail claim with unrelated damage.

It’s understandable to be concerned about how your new insurance company might handle the situation. Usually, when filing a claim for hail damage, insurance adjusters focus primarily on the current damage and how it relates to the event you’re claiming for, rather than previous unrelated incidents. However, it’s important to be honest when discussing your truck’s history, as failing to disclose previous damage could create issues down the line.
If the damage from the incident a couple of years ago was never declared and doesn’t affect the hail damage, it may not impact your claim. That said, it’s always a good idea to document everything, including the previous damage, in case questions arise during the claims process. You can also reach out to your insurance agent for specific guidance tailored to your situation. They should be able to clarify what is relevant for the current claim and ease your concerns. Good luck with your claim!
