Insurance is totaling my 2018 Ram 1500

The insurance company is considering my 2018 Ram 1500 a total loss. I just received their estimate for repairs, which came to $18,200. However, they only spent 18 minutes assessing the damage. Is it just me overthinking things, or do they seem to be trying to avoid covering the repairs?

Edit: I’m feeling really down about it being totaled. I was genuinely excited to have that truck.

  1. It’s understandable to feel bummed about your truck being totaled, especially if you were excited about it. The quick estimate from the insurance company can definitely raise some red flags, but it’s not uncommon for them to have a streamlined process in place to assess damages. Sometimes they may just be trying to get a preliminary idea of costs.

If you feel the estimate doesn’t reflect the true cost of repairs, you have the right to challenge it. Consider getting a second opinion from a trusted mechanic or body shop. You can present that information to your insurance company to see if they’ll reconsider their assessment.

It’s tough to see something you care about getting totaled, but remember that you could use the payout to either put towards another vehicle or find a replacement that you might love just as much. Hang in there!
