Insurance check not coming in the mail.

No sign of my insurance check in the mail

Hey everyone, I’m turning to Reddit for advice in a bit of a bind. I was in a car accident on January 7, 2025, and I filed a claim with the other driver’s insurance. I won the claim, and they issued a check to me on February 3, 2025, which they said was mailed that same day. However, as of today, February 26, it still hasn’t arrived. I called their customer service last week, and they mentioned it normally takes about two weeks to arrive, but that it can depend on how long the postal service takes. Now it’s been almost three weeks, and I’m getting really anxious.

I haven’t had access to a car since the accident, and this is my first experience with a car crash—plus, my own insurance hasn’t been much help. The company that issued the check is Dairyland, and I’m located in California. Any advice or options I might have? Thanks so much!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your situation; waiting for an important check can be really frustrating. Here are a few steps you might consider taking:

    1. Contact the Insurance Company Again: Reach out to Dairyland Insurance again. Explain the situation and ask if they can stop payment on the original check and issue a new one. They might have a process in place for lost or undelivered checks.

    2. Check Your Mailbox: Ensure that your mail is being delivered correctly and that the check hasn’t been misplaced. If you have a neighbor or friend who can help, ask them to check your mailbox too.

    3. Visit Your Local Post Office: Sometimes, mail can be delayed or held up at the post office. It might be worth checking in with them to see if they have any information.

    4. Document Everything: Keep a record of all your communications with the insurance company and the post office. This can be helpful if you need to escalate the issue.

    5. Consider Other Resources: If you’re struggling without a car, you could look into public transportation options, ridesharing services, or see if friends or family can help with rides while you wait for the check.

    6. Check with State Insurance Commissioner: If you feel that Dairyland isn’t handling your claim properly, you can file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance.

I hope you receive your check soon and can get back on the road! Good luck!
