AAA damaged my car during tow; not worth it to seek reimbursement through my insurance

AAA damaged my car during a tow, but I’m hesitant to pursue reimbursement through my insurance.

Recently, I had my car towed out of a snowy area by AAA. Unfortunately, the flatbed driver wrapped the chains around components near my front wheels. Almost immediately after the tow, I started hearing a metallic clunking noise from the driver’s side wheel hub when I turned sharply to the left. I took my car to my local mechanic for an inspection today, and he determined the noise was coming from a seized sway bar link on the driver’s side. Given the timing and the circumstances, I suspect this damage occurred during the tow.

However, I’ve realized that seeking reimbursement through my insurance may not be worth the hassle. The cost to replace the sway bar links is just below my deductible, meaning I’d be stuck paying out of pocket and risk a potential premium increase by going through my insurance. Despite this, the repair costs are still significant enough that I want to pursue compensation, so I’ve started the process of filing a damage claim with AAA.

I anticipate that this will be a challenging process, and I’m curious if anyone here has had success in obtaining reimbursement from AAA in the past.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about the damage to your car during the tow; that sounds incredibly frustrating. It’s definitely worth pursuing a claim with AAA, especially since you’ve already identified the issue and have documentation from your mechanic. Many people have successfully claimed damages from towing companies, but it can take some persistence.

When you file your claim, make sure to provide as much detail as possible: include photos of the damage, a detailed statement from your mechanic, and any receipts related to the tow. AAA may initially reject claims that lack sufficient evidence, so being thorough is key.

It might also help to check online for any potential customer service contacts or escalation options to speed up the process. Additionally, consider reaching out to your local consumer protection agency for advice on how to strengthen your case.

Good luck! I hope you get the compensation you’re seeking. Keep us posted on how it goes!
