Transition to underwriting?

Interested in Transitioning to Underwriting

Hi everyone! I’m eager to make a shift into the insurance industry, specifically in underwriting, from my current role in supply chain operations. I’ve developed skills such as data and cost analysis, time management, and customer service that I believe would be valuable in underwriting.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether taking some online courses from the Insurance Institute (not for certifications) would be beneficial for enhancing my resume for Underwriting Assistant positions. Would this be helpful or even necessary in making the transition? Thank you!

  1. Hi there!

It’s great to hear that you’re looking to transition into underwriting! Your experience in supply chain operations, particularly with skills like data analysis and customer service, will definitely be beneficial in the insurance industry.

Taking online courses from the Insurance Institute can certainly enhance your resume. While they may not be required for entry-level underwriting roles, they can demonstrate your commitment to learning and understanding the industry. Additionally, these courses could help you gain foundational knowledge about insurance policies, risk assessment, and the underwriting process, which could make you a more attractive candidate.

It’s also worth considering networking with professionals already in the field. They can provide insights on what skills are most valued in underwriting roles and may even suggest additional resources or courses that could be beneficial.

Best of luck with your transition!
