Hit and Run Incident Update
I was driving behind a truck with a trailer when a bunch of loose gravel and rocks flew off and hit my windshield, leaving three noticeable pits and some questionable paint chips on my bumper.
I followed the truck until the CHP arrived, but the driver gave some excuse about waiting for his supervisor. Apparently, he didn’t have a CDL and wasn’t actually driving, so the officers said there was nothing they could do.
Fortunately, I managed to take photos of him driving, his license plate, and the loose rocks in the trailer. I immediately opened a claim with his employer’s insurance.
The adjuster will be reaching out to me soon.
I’ve never been in this situation before and would love any advice or tips from those who have been through something similar. Thanks!
I’m sorry to hear about your experience! It sounds very frustrating. Here are some tips that might help you navigate the claims process:
Document Everything: Make sure you have all the photos and details saved, including the truck’s license plate, any damage to your car, and the loose rocks in the trailer. This will be useful for your insurance claim.
Follow Up with the Insurance Adjuster: Keep in contact with the insurance adjuster when they reach out. Provide them with all the evidence you gathered and answer any questions they may have.
Get Estimates for Repairs: It might be a good idea to get a couple of estimates for the repairs to your windshield and bumper. This information can help support your claim.
Keep Records of Communication: Document every conversation with the insurance company, including dates, who you spoke with, and what was discussed. This can be helpful if any disputes arise.
Know Your Rights: Familiarize yourself with your rights as a claimant. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure, consider consulting with a legal professional who specializes in auto accidents, especially since it was a hit and run.
Be Persistent: Sometimes, insurance companies can be slow to respond. Don’t hesitate to follow up regularly to check on the status of your claim.
Stay Patient: Claims can take time, so try to stay patient as you work through the process.
Hopefully, this will be resolved quickly for you. Good luck!
