Seeking Insurance for Bike Valet Service
Hi everyone! I manage a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for pedestrians and cyclists in our urban community.
For years, we have successfully organized a bike valet service at our local farmers market, providing a safe place for people to park their bikes while they shop. This initiative has been a fantastic way for us to engage with the community. However, our insurance provider has recently informed us that this event is no longer covered under our existing policy. We’ve reached out to several other insurance companies, but they have all declined coverage as well.
As a temporary measure, we considered asking participants to sign waivers before parking their bikes, but our board is hesitant about this approach.
Does anyone know of an insurance company that offers coverage for bike valet events? Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi there!
It’s great to hear about the important work you’re doing for pedestrians and cyclists in your community. Bike valet services are a fantastic way to encourage cycling and support local events like farmers markets.
I understand your concern about finding appropriate insurance coverage for your bike valet event. It can be challenging to navigate the insurance landscape, especially for unique activities like this. Here are a few suggestions that might help:
Specialty Insurance Providers: Look for insurance companies that specialize in non-profit events or recreational activities. Some providers may have policies that cater specifically to community events and volunteer organizations.
Event Liability Insurance: Consider purchasing a one-time event liability policy for the duration of the bike valet service. These types of policies might cover specific scenarios and could be less expensive than a regular policy.
Local or State Advocacy Groups: Reach out to other non-profits or advocacy groups in your area. They might have experience with similar events and could recommend insurance companies they’ve successfully worked with.
Western States Bike Valet or similar organizations: They have run successful bike valet programs and may have resources or partnerships with insurance providers that are willing to cover these types of events.
Insurance Brokers: Consulting with an insurance broker who has experience with non-profits might be beneficial. They can help you find tailored coverage that meets your needs.
Crowdfunding or Grants: If insurance costs are prohibitive, consider looking for funding opportunities or grants that could help offset the costs of insurance and running the valet service.
While waivers can provide some level of legal protection, I understand your board’s hesitation. The focus should be on maintaining a welcoming atmosphere. With persistence and the right connections, I’m hopeful you’ll find a solution that works for your event. Good luck, and thank you for advocating for cyclists and pedestrians in your community!
