Buy back car?

Thinking about buying back my car?

I have a 2015 Chevy City Express that I use as a work van. Unfortunately, I was rear-ended, and while the back is damaged and the doors don’t open, the van still runs well with only 130,000 miles. I filed an insurance claim, and they offered me $8,800 to total it, or $6,800 if I keep the car.

Now I’m wondering: is it worth it to keep the van, considering there’s only a $2,000 difference? If I decide to go that route, will it be complicated to insure it since it now has a salvage title? I’ve attached some pictures below for reference.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a bit of a tough spot with your Chevy City Express. Here are some things to consider when making your decision:

    1. Value of the Van: Since you mentioned that the van still drives well and has relatively low mileage for its age, keeping it could be worthwhile—especially if you believe you can either repair it at a reasonable cost or continue using it as is for your work.

    2. Repair Costs: If you decide to keep the van, it might make sense to get a quote for repairs to see how much it would cost to fix the damage. If repair costs are feasible and you could use it for a while longer, it might justify holding on to it.

    3. Insurance Implications: Getting insurance on a vehicle with a salvage title can be more complicated. Some insurers may refuse coverage, while others may offer limited options. Be sure to check with your insurance provider about how this would affect your premiums and coverage options.

    4. Future Resale: Keep in mind that if the title is salvaged, you may have a difficult time selling the van in the future, which could impact its long-term value.

    5. Work Needs: Depending on how crucial the van is for your work, that could also influence your decision. If it serves your needs well despite the damage, that might sway you toward keeping it.

Ultimately, if the $2,000 difference is not significant for you and the van still meets your work needs, it could be worth keeping. Just make sure to weigh the potential repair costs and insurance options before making a final decision. Good luck!
