What’s should I get?

I’m considering switching insurance companies and currently have collision and comprehensive coverage in Texas. Do I also need uninsured motorist coverage if I have collision? For instance, if I’m involved in an accident with an uninsured driver, wouldn’t my collision coverage take care of the damages to my vehicle?

  1. While collision insurance covers damage to your own vehicle in the event of an accident you cause or if you hit something else, it does not cover damages caused by an uninsured motorist. If you’re hit by someone who doesn’t have insurance, collision coverage won’t pay for your medical expenses or cover any injuries sustained.

Uninsured motorist coverage is specifically designed to protect you in situations where the other driver is at fault and does not have insurance. It can cover medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering resulting from the accident.

In Texas, it’s a good idea to have uninsured motorist coverage, especially considering the high number of uninsured drivers on the road. It adds an extra layer of protection for you and your passengers. If you have any specific questions or need help deciding, it might be worth discussing your options with an insurance agent.
