Expenses

Expenses Inquiry

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago, I was involved in a car accident and have begun the claims process for expenses and injuries in the UK.

Since I work from home, my job primarily involves long hours of sitting on calls. However, after seeing the physio today, I’ve been advised to limit my sitting to no more than 30 minutes at a time.

With this in mind, would a sit/stand desk be considered a reasonable expense to claim through insurance?

Previously, I could comfortably sit for extended periods to participate in calls or work on my tasks, but that’s no longer feasible due to the accident. The only way I can continue working is to invest in a sit/stand desk or take time off while I wait for my employer to potentially provide one, which could take around six months! 😂

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your accident and the challenges you’re facing. Given your situation, it sounds like a sit/stand desk could be a reasonable expense to include in your claim, especially since it directly relates to your ability to work and manage your pain following the injury.

In the UK, insurers often consider expenses that are necessary for recovery and improving your quality of life after an accident. Since your physio advised you to limit your sitting time, explaining that a sit/stand desk will help you adhere to that recommendation could strengthen your claim.

Make sure to keep any documentation from your healthcare provider about your need for the desk as well as any correspondence with your employer regarding your current work situation. It may also be beneficial to check with your insurance company or a legal professional to see if there are any specific guidelines they require for claiming such expenses.

Wishing you a smooth recovery and a quick resolution to your claim!
