Progressive scam

Progressive Scandal

Progressive has just added my husband and me to our daughter’s boyfriend’s auto policy, resulting in a rate increase.

The problem? We’ve never lived with him, and he’s never lived with us.

Instead of taking a moment to verify our situation—after all, we’ve been at our current address for 18 years—Progressive is demanding that we provide extensive private documents, such as W2s, showing our current address to prove something that isn’t true.

My husband reached out to our state’s Commissioner of Securities and Insurance to file a complaint, and it turns out they are already investigating Progressive for this practice, labeling it as “legally dubious.”

  1. It sounds incredibly frustrating to be put in a position where you have to prove something that shouldn’t even be an issue in the first place. Insurance companies should be conducting their due diligence properly and respecting customers’ privacy. The fact that they’ve added you to a policy without your consent or proper verification is troubling. It’s good that your husband is taking action by contacting the Commissioner of Securities and Insurance, and hopefully it helps to hold Progressive accountable. It might also be helpful to file a formal complaint and consider exploring other insurance options if this situation isn’t resolved quickly. You deserve to have an insurance provider that respects your privacy and handles your policy correctly!
