Looking for advice. Dad was rear-ended by large truck. Do we need a lawyer?

Navigating Accident Recovery: Should You Hire a Lawyer?

Recently, my father, who is 78 years old, experienced a serious incident when a large flatbed truck collided with his car as he was attempting to enter his driveway. The impact was severe enough to total my dad’s vehicle, and the driver of the truck readily admitted fault for the accident.

Following the collision, my father was taken to the hospital, where he underwent multiple CT scans and ultrasounds. His condition was concerning enough that he had to stay hospitalized for two nights, during which he experienced symptoms such as vomiting, fainting, and an inability to support his own weight. Fortunately, he received the care he needed, including a blood transfusion for low hemoglobin levels. While he’s stable now, he is understandably in considerable pain and has extensive bruising. Mobility has become a challenge, requiring him to use a walker as he starts physical therapy.

Recently, the truck driver’s insurance company offered my dad $25,000 to cover his medical expenses. However, my father declined the offer, as he has not yet received any bills from the hospital.

Given the circumstances and the significant impact on my father’s health and quality of life, I am left wondering whether it is advisable to seek legal representation. Should we wait to see what additional medical costs arise before making a decision, or is it in our best interest to engage a lawyer now? Any insights or experiences on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
