Insurance wants proof of license at 18 but I don’t have that card anymore.

Navigating Insurance Rate Challenges After a Move: Seeking Solutions

Recently, I encountered a frustrating situation with my car insurance after relocating to a new state. Having just moved and enrolled in a new plan with my partner, I was excited to start this fresh chapter. However, the insurance company requested proof of my driving history, specifically wanting to see my original license from when I turned 18. Unfortunately, I no longer possess that document, which has led to complications and unexpectedly high premiums.

Here’s what happened: I obtained a new driver’s license for my current state, but because it’s so recent, the insurance agents informed me that my lack of driving history with this license would result in elevated rates. In an attempt to remedy the situation, I searched for my previous out-of-state license and presented that to the insurance company. Although it was only a year old, they insisted that my initial license was necessary for them to accurately adjust my premium.

The challenge is that I no longer have access to my very first driver’s license. I’ve been driving since I turned 18, and now at 32, I find myself in a bind where I feel penalized for not having that historical documentation.

I’m reaching out to the community for advice: How can I obtain my original license information, or is there an alternative way to lower my insurance rates given my extensive driving history? Any insights or recommendations to alleviate this financial pressure would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading!
