Urgent: Vehicle stolen from repair shop following accident—seeking guidance
Dear readers,
I am reaching out to share a distressing situation and to seek advice from the community.
Last week, I was involved in a traffic incident when a driver ran a red light and hit my vehicle. Thankfully, my dashcam recorded the incident clearly, and the other driver’s insurance acknowledged fault, providing me with a rental car while my vehicle was being repaired.
My car was initially towed to a reputable repair shop within their network. After a day, it was sent to a sister facility for suspension diagnostics. However, I was informed that the vehicle’s whereabouts were temporarily unaccounted for—initially reported as missing overnight, but later found. As of the second day of inspection, and with the weekend approaching, I expected delays.
Unfortunately, the situation worsened. Upon arriving at the repair shop this morning, I learned that the lot had been burglarized overnight. Two vehicles were stolen, including mine. The police were notified, and I received a case number.
After contacting my insurance provider, Allstate, I learned that because my vehicle was stolen, they would no longer provide repair estimates or coverage. This is despite my ongoing injury claim related to the incident, and their refusal leaves me without a rental car, adding to my frustration.
I am considering reaching out to my own insurance for assistance, but I can’t help feeling that both the repair shop and Allstate are neglecting their responsibilities in this situation.
If anyone has experience with similar cases or advice on the best course of action, I would greatly appreciate your insights. Thank you all for your support.
