Insurance wants proof of license at 18 but I don’t have that card anymore.

Navigating Insurance Requirements When Your Original Driver’s License Is No Longer Available

Relocating to a new state often brings a host of challenges, especially when it comes to updating your insurance coverage. Recently, I moved across the country and set up a new policy with my partner. While I’ve secured a fresh driver’s license for my new state, my insurance company is requesting additional documentation to determine my premium—a process proving more complicated than expected.

Here’s the situation: The insurer informed me that because my driving history in this state is minimal, I’d be assigned a higher rate. To adjust this, they require my previous out-of-state license information. I managed to find and submit my current license from just a year ago, but they’ve now insisted they need my original driver’s license from when I initially started driving—back when I turned 18. Unfortunately, I no longer possess this initial license.

Given that I’ve been behind the wheel for over a decade, I’m seeking guidance on how to retrieve my original licensing records or any alternative documentation that could help reduce my insurance premium. If anyone has experience or advice on how to source this information or navigate similar situations, I’d greatly appreciate your insights.

Thank you for taking the time to read and assist!
