Got rear-ended, now my car won’t start after repairs & insurance won’t take responsibility

Understanding Post-Repair Vehicle Issues After a Rear-End Collision: What Are Your Rights?

Facing Unexpected Problems After an Insurance-Authorized Repair

Recently, Iwas involved in a rear-end collision that was clearly the other driver’s fault. The responsible party’s insurance acknowledged their liability, and my vehicle was sent to an approved repair facility to address the damages—primarily to the rear bumper and backup camera.

Initially, the repair shop scheduled multiple delays but finally notified me that my car was ready for pickup. However, upon retrieving my vehicle, I encountered an unexpected and concerning issue: the car no longer starts. The repair shop now claims that there’s an electrical wiring problem caused during repair, and surprisingly, they are denying responsibility. They have advised that I arrange for towing at my own expense and handle any necessary repairs independently.

Pre-accident, my vehicle was in excellent condition, running smoothly with no issues besides the damaged parts they were contracted to fix. I personally drove it to the repair shop without problems. The shop performed several diagnostics, all indicating that the vehicle was operating normally before their repair work.

Now, the insurance provider for the at-fault driver has washed their hands of the issue, stating their responsibility ends once the repair is completed. Meanwhile, I am left with a non-starting vehicle and a hefty towing bill I did not anticipate.

What steps can I take in this situation? Has anyone experienced a similar scenario? It feels unjust to be left to deal with new electrical issues and repair costs due to someone else’s negligence. Understanding my legal rights and possible avenues for recourse is essential.

If you’ve faced something similar or have insights into handling post-repair disputes with insurance and auto repair shops, I would appreciate your advice. Navigating these situations can be complex, but knowing your options is the first step toward resolution.
