Experience with Direct Auto ignoring your insurance company?

Has anyone else dealt with Direct Auto ignoring your insurance company? Here’s my situation:

I was in an accident in May 2024, and the driver at fault has Direct Auto as their insurer. Geico has been trying to reach out to them for months, but they haven’t gotten a response. Here’s a timeline of what happened:

  1. November 2024: Direct Auto claims the at-fault driver is uninsured.

  2. November 2024: Geico tries to contact the at-fault driver, but there’s no response.

  3. December 2024: Geico sends a subrogation request to a collections agency.

  4. January 2025: I receive a letter from Direct Auto asking me to complete an accident report form. Confused, I called Geico to find out why this was sent to me instead of them. Geico followed up, but Direct Auto still didn’t respond.

  5. February 2025: I get another letter from Direct Auto—this time with a different spelling of my name—again stating that I’m not insured with them (no kidding). On the same day, I received yet another letter asking me to fill out an accident report, but with slightly different formatting.

Has anyone had a similar experience with Direct Auto? I feel like there’s no way they’ll pay me, as all I’m owed is my deductible. They seem so disorganized that it’s almost impossible to get them to understand this.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about the frustrating experience you’ve been having with Direct Auto. It sounds incredibly disorganized on their part, especially with the different letters and conflicting information. It’s not uncommon for insurance companies to experience delays in communication, but it seems like this has gone beyond typical delays.

Based on what you’ve shared, it might be beneficial to keep a detailed record of all your communications with both Geico and Direct Auto, including dates and the content of the conversations. This documentation can be valuable if you need to escalate the matter further.

Since it seems like Direct Auto is unresponsive to Geico, you might consider reaching out to a supervisor or manager at Direct Auto directly, if possible. Sometimes, escalations can lead to faster resolutions. It could also be helpful to check if there are any state insurance departments or consumer advocacy groups that can provide assistance or guidance in dealing with the situation.

Hopefully, you can get this resolved soon and receive the compensation you’re owed. Good luck!
