Scope of work clarity not provided

Subject: Clarity on Scope of Work Request

Hi everyone! I’m currently managing an ongoing claim related to a house fire. We chose an insurance-recommended contractor for the restoration, and they recently sent us an estimate. I’m wondering if the insured has the right to request the initial scope of work submitted by the contractor, or if this information is limited solely to the adjuster and the contractor. I’ve been feeling quite uninformed while the adjuster and contractor discuss the scope of work without my involvement. Thanks for any insights!

  1. Hello! It’s completely understandable to feel left in the dark during this process. Generally, as the insured party, you have the right to request and receive clarity on the scope of work that the contractor has submitted. While the adjuster and contractor may discuss details, it is crucial for you to be informed about what work is being proposed to restore your home.

You should feel empowered to ask for a copy of the scope of work and any relevant documentation related to the estimate. Open communication is key in these situations, and it’s important that you understand what repairs will be made and why. If you’re facing resistance, you could consider reaching out to your insurance company to advocate on your behalf. Keeping everything transparent will help ensure that you’re fully aware of the restoration process and can make informed decisions.
