Speeding Ticket Concerns

Hey everyone, I just received my first speeding ticket here in Oregon for going 20 mph over the limit, and it’s $115. I’m 19 and have a clean driving record, but I was just trying to pass a slow vehicle. The officer was nice and issued me the lowest possible fine. I’m feeling anxious about this—will my insurance rates take a big hit?

  1. Getting your first speeding ticket can be stressful, but there are a few things to consider. Generally, a speeding ticket can lead to an increase in your insurance premiums, especially if you’re cited for going 20 mph over the limit. However, because this is your first ticket and you have a clean driving record, the increase may not be as significant as you fear. Many insurers do take factors like your driving history into account, and some may even offer forgiveness for your first ticket to help mitigate the rise in rates.

It’s worth checking with your insurance provider to understand how they handle speeding tickets and if it would be beneficial to shop around for quotes. Additionally, consider options like traffic school, where available, which might help reduce the impact on your record.

Remember to drive safely in the future, and good luck!
